2020 is a perfect time to visit Walt Disney World. It’s hot off the heels of the opening of both phases of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Any surge in attendance due to the new attractions will have time to die down before you get there. 2020 is likely going to be a tranquil year. Although a few new attractions will be opening, most of the enormous changes are scheduled for 2021, or 2022. If you are looking to beat the crowds with your next Disney vacation, here is a Disney World 2020 planning guide to help you.

Discounts on Booking

Galaxy’s Edge crowds are likely to dip in 2020, and most of the significant new changes are slated for 2021. That means 2020 is most likely going to be pretty mellow. Most potential guests will be holding off for the completed Disney projects after 2020. Since people will not be flocking to the turnstiles, Disney will likely have some incentives to bring in the guests. If you want to go to Disney World in 2020, then you should check for deals and promotions. You can find discounted packages by scrolling to the bottom of the Walt Disney World website and clicking on the Special Offers link.

Disney World 2020 Opening Dates

In May 2020, “HarmonioUS,” A Celebration of Disney Music, will permanently replace “Illuminations Reflections of Earth” as Epcot’s nighttime show. The temporary replacement shows Epcot Forever will run-up to the same month. In Hollywood Studios the transformation of the park will continue in 2020. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will open in the show building behind the Chinese Theater facade. The ride, featuring Mickey Mouse and his pals from Disney’s recent award-winning shorts will also open in the spring. A May Walt Disney World trip will be just in time for Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure in Epcot, which is on track to open as early as April. Disney World 2020 will also see the arrival of new shows in Epcot, including an updated O Canada and a Beauty and the Beast Sing-Along.

Best Month to Visit

If you show up to Disney World early in 2020, you will still get to experience Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in its entirety. However, you will miss the excitement of other new shows and attractions debuting later in the year. Specific dates have not yet been announced for the upcoming attractions, so after May is the best time to visit, to ensure none of these opportunities are missed. June is typically a pretty good month for lower crowds, but it is very hot and the beginning of hurricane season. The best month to visit Walt Disney World 2020 attractions will be in September, or on Weekdays in October. School is in session, and the weather is typically a bit milder. You will also have Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party and the International Food and Wine Festival to attend.

New Hotel

Disney Vacation Club Members, this is for YOU! 2020 will be your chance to stay at the new Riviera hotel in the Epcot resort area. The theme of the new hotel connects with Walt Disney’s fascination with the romance of Europe that inspired so many Walt Disney classics and theme park developments in the years that followed his tourism there. The hotel will open in December of 2019, so 2020 is wide open if you can get your reservation in before all the rooms are booked.

Disney Skyliner

2020 will also see the continued use of the newly opened transportation system, the Disney Skyliner. The gondola system will transport guests to and from resorts and parks including Pop Century, Art of Animation, Caribbean Beach, Disney’s Riviera Resort, Epcot, and Hollywood Studios.
