Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge has officially opened at Disneyland in California. In Hollywood Studios, Galaxy’s Edge opens August 29th. While the two parks have very different procedures for accepting guests, here are some things we can expect going to both parks in the first few months after Galaxy’s Edge opening day.
Galaxy’s Edge Opening Day: Planning Tips for Star Wars Land
Crowd Control
Crowd control is going to be very different in Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge than it typically is at any other section of the park. Galaxy’s Edge can only accept a limited number of guests at any particular time. Disneyland and Hollywood Studios both have different systems. Disneyland requires reservations to enter Galaxy’s Edge. However, Hollywood Studios will have no such requirement. Either way the gatekeepers to the land will make sure the limited capacity of the new land is not exceeded.
That also means that while Galaxy’s Edge likely will be filled to capacity, it should be relatively comfortable. The limit is meant to maintain the storytelling and interactive nature of the new environment. It also means that you can expect long lines to form just outside Galaxy’s Edge for an indefinite period of time.
Pick and Choose
There are several different activities you can partake in. Oga’s Cantina is going to be a big draw. So is Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run. In addition to flying the Millennium Falcon, there are further activities set up within the Marketplace, such as Droid and Lightsaber building. As the section will be very popular for some time, lines can be expected to form at virtually every opportunity. On top of that, Disney has established a four hour time limit so that more guests can enter and enjoy the land. With a time limit imposed, there is no way you can do everything you will want to, especially on the Galaxy’s Edge opening day. You will have to pick a couple of things that are most important to you and commit to those.
Cantina Limit
The Cantina has a limit as well. You can only have a maximum of two drinks here. The Cantina will have a long and steady line, so the two drink maximum makes sense. Disney has also taken expediency into account. There is no way bartenders can work as fast as they’ll need to for this crowd, especially with so many specialty cocktails on the menu. The drinks are premixed and pours from a tap. This will surely save time, but it might make the $15 price tag on a single drink sting a little bit more.

Only one Ride
Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge is only partially opening. There are two planned attractions for the new land, but only one of them is opening with the rest of Galaxy’s Edge. Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run is the flight simulator that lets you pilot the Millennium Falcon in real time. Other positions on the six-seater are gunner and engineer. You have to work together to succeed. The attraction that will not be opening is Rise of the Resistance. It’s the most ambitious attraction ever, with multiple stages. It features trackless dark ride elements, vehicle changes, travel to a Star Destroyer, and then a return to Batuu. No opening date for this attraction has yet been announced.
