Ready to belt a tune out with your kids? Learn why singing is important for child development PLUS enter this fun giveaway! This is a sponsored post in partnership with Singing Machine. All musical opinions are my own.

Children love music. Think about it. How many of us remember singing to our baby while we were pregnant? Then when our baby is born, we sing literally all day long. I remember making up the silliest songs about the most random things when my kids were babies. Anything to make them smile!

Today, my children are 8 and 4 years old. Music is part of their daily lives. My 8 year old will be loading the dishwasher, and I’ll catch him happily whistling to a tune. Avery, my silly, wild 4 year old, likes to change the words up to his favorite nursery rhymes! I love listening to what he comes up with — he has an incredible imagination! Music and singing are crucial for child development. It helps our little ones grow leaps and bounds. Let’s take a look…

WHY SINGING IS IMPORTANT FOR CHILD DEVELOPMENT

Why singing is important for child development

Language Development

If you think about it, language itself is musical. Singing increases a child’s development and encourages vocabulary growth. Both of my boys receive speech therapy. Nursery rhymes and other tongue twisters are great mechanisms to practice speech while having fun!

Encourages Movement

Singing and music in general makes you want to get up and dance! Who’s with me?! Lincoln and Avery both cannot resist dancing the second they hear music. Dance parties are a big thing in our house, and I love it!!

Why singing is important to child development

Accelerates Brain Development

Music helps the body and mind work together. Singing with your children introduces them to sounds, as well as learning the meaning of words.

It Makes Us Happy

Simply put, music brings us joy! It makes us happy! Singing builds overall confidence in children. It also builds self-esteem and teaches us discipline and practice. All life skills to build a bright future!

My dad and mom sang with me and by the time I was 2 1/2 I could sing the chorus of Blue Moon of Kentucky. I have 3 adult children that should be able to sing, but I was too busy worrying about me, myself, and I as a 23 year old divorced mother of 3. I do have a young boy who loves to try to make his own music and a grandson that loves to do the same. So hopefully I can redeem myself through them…. Somewhere Over The Rainbow is one of my favorite classics.
