When I attended Creation Entertainment’s The Road So Far…The Road Ahead Supernatural Convention in Boston earlier this summer, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. It was my first Supernatural convention after discovering the series with my son, Avery, and finishing all 15 seasons together. I went into Boston as a longtime The Vampire Diaries convention attendee and a relatively new member of the Supernatural fandom. I left Boston knowing I’d found something special.
So when the opportunity came to cover Creation Entertainment’s The Road So Far…The Road Ahead Supernatural convention in Whippany, New Jersey, August 21-23, 2026, I couldn’t wait to return. This time, however, I wasn’t attending simply as a fan. I had the incredible opportunity to attend with a media pass and cover the convention.
And if Boston made me fall in love with the Supernatural fandom, New Jersey made me feel like I truly belonged.
From Supernatural Newbie to Part of the Family
One of the things that surprised me most about my first Supernatural convention was just how welcoming the fandom was. I’ve been working in entertainment and creating content for years, and I’ve covered plenty of television and film events. But I’ve never experienced the kind of reaction I’ve received from my Supernatural content. The engagement from fans has been incredible.
After Boston, my love for the fandom grew exponentially. Not only because of the incredible cast, but because of the fans themselves. They really do feel like the “Supernatural Family” the cast talks about so often.
Walking into the New Jersey convention felt different. I was more confident. I knew more people. I understood the rhythm of the weekend. And, most importantly, I didn’t feel like an outsider anymore. I felt like I belonged.
Covering the Supernatural Convention as Media
Being able to attend the New Jersey convention with a media pass was a dream come true. While I didn’t have the opportunity to conduct interviews this time around, that’s still something I hope to do in the future, I was able to capture plenty of panel content and experience the convention from a slightly different perspective. I found myself looking at the weekend through both lenses: the entertainment journalist who wants to capture the story and the fan who is still completely thrilled to be standing in the same room as these incredible actors.
And I loved every minute of it.
Fans were genuinely excited when they realized I was covering the convention, which made the experience even more rewarding. As a wheelchair user, there’s something particularly meaningful to me about being visible at these events. There are fans with all different abilities attending conventions, and I think it’s important for people to see someone like themselves out there, doing the things they’ve dreamed about doing.
If you dream it, you can do it.
Meeting More of the Supernatural Family
I am, without question, a J2M girl through and through. Jensen Ackles remains my absolute favorite, but after meeting Jensen, Jared Padalecki, and Misha Collins in Boston, I was especially excited to meet Kim Rhodes and Briana Buckmaster in New Jersey. They were both at the top of my list, and neither disappointed. Kim and Briana brought so much personality and warmth to their interactions, and I was thrilled to finally have the opportunity to meet them.
Of course, there was also another memorable moment with Jensen. While visiting his autograph table, I jokingly told him that one of my photos with him was now my favorite photo…and that he probably shouldn’t tell my kids. His response? “You look good, babe!” I told him he looked good, too, which made him laugh.
And yes, I walked away from that interaction smiling like a teenager.
I’ve interviewed plenty of celebrities over the years, but there is something very different about being a fan. Sometimes you just have to embrace the moment.
Jensen and Jared Are Still Giving Us Sam and Dean
One of my favorite things about attending Supernatural panels is watching Jensen and Jared together. The chemistry between them is unmistakable, and it’s almost surreal watching them interact because you can see just how much of that brotherly dynamic translates from their real-life friendship to Sam and Dean. Sometimes they seem like Sam and Dean even when they’re not talking about the show.
You don’t always need fan questions when Jensen and Jared are on stage together. Give them a microphone and let them do their thing. Their natural banter, storytelling, teasing, and ability to play off each other can carry an entire panel. It’s one of those experiences that reminds you why the relationship between Sam and Dean resonated with so many people for 15 seasons.
Misha Collins, Birthday Celebrations and Plenty of Laughs
Misha Collins’ panel was another highlight. Misha has a way of making an audience laugh while simultaneously making you feel like you’ve known him forever. He is genuinely one of the sweetest humans, and his ability to connect with fans is something that stands out.
His birthday had recently passed, so the convention gave fans an opportunity to celebrate with him. We sang “Happy Birthday” and celebrated with a cupcake while he was on stage.
A Little Supernatural Kindness Beyond the Convention
Even though Avery didn’t attend the New Jersey convention with me, he still managed to become part of the weekend. I noticed that Random Acts was collecting donations. I explained to Avery what the organization was doing and asked whether it was something he’d like to participate in. He immediately said yes. Avery and my husband went shopping for shelf-stable food, and Avery was able to bring the donation bag directly to the Random Acts table. I loved that he wanted to be involved.
For me, it was another reminder that conventions can provide opportunities for meaningful conversations with our kids…not just about television shows and actors, but about kindness, generosity, and helping other people.
Accessibility at the Supernatural Convention
As a wheelchair user, accessibility is something I always pay attention to when attending conventions, and I’m happy to say I had no issues navigating the New Jersey event. In fact, I noticed what seemed like a much larger number of wheelchair users and other disabled attendees compared with the Boston convention.
Creation’s staff was consistently helpful throughout the weekend, and the overall experience was very comfortable. There was even one staff member who repeatedly helped fix my hair because the fan kept giving me a rather unfortunate “wind-blown” look. It became a running joke throughout the weekend…and I’m grateful someone was willing to keep rescuing my hair!
More seriously, I hope my presence at these conventions helps other disabled fans realize that these experiences are for them, too. Whether you’re attending for photo ops, panels, autographs, or simply to be surrounded by people who love the same show, don’t let concerns about accessibility stop you from pursuing the experience.
Seeing fans with different abilities enjoying these events alongside everyone else is something I love about convention culture.
Two Supernatural Conventions Later…
Looking back at my first Supernatural convention in Boston and now my second in New Jersey, it’s amazing how quickly this fandom has become such a meaningful part of my life.
When Avery and I started watching Supernatural last fall, we were simply looking for another show to watch together. We had no idea we’d become invested in the Winchesters, Castiel, Crowley, and the rest of this wonderfully chaotic universe, or that I’d eventually find myself traveling to conventions and covering them as entertainment media.
But that’s the magic of fandom. You never quite know where a television show is going to take you. For me, Supernatural has taken me to a community I didn’t know I needed. And after Boston, then New Jersey, I’m already looking forward to wherever the road takes me next.
Would I Recommend a Supernatural Convention?
Without hesitation: yes. Just do it. If you’re on the fence, consider starting with a one-day pass. You don’t have to commit to an entire weekend to experience the magic.
But I’ll warn you: there’s a very good chance that one convention will turn into two, and then three, and before you know it, attending Supernatural conventions becomes a lifestyle. The cast genuinely appreciates the fans. The fans genuinely appreciate one another. And there’s an incredible sense of community that makes these weekends feel like much more than celebrity appearances and photo opportunities.
