Rivers of Light Debuts at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

The highly anticipated Rivers of Light debuted at Disney’s Animal Kingdom February 17th, 2017. However, attendees of the Disney Social Media Moms Celebration got an exclusive first-look of the nighttime show on February 7th, 2017! Being among one of the first to witness such a breathtaking masterpiece was incredible.

Beautiful. Stunning. Mesmerizing. Breathtaking. Spectacular. Magical. Sensational. Those are a few of the words that could be used to describe Rivers of Light.  The 15-minute show celebrates the connection between animals and humans. The performance combines live performers, floating lanterns, fountains, special effects and animal imagery projected on giant water screens.
The combination of water, sound, and light will be unlike anything you’ve ever seen. It is truly only something that Disney could do.
Guests are invited to gather along the Discovery River in a 5,000-seat amphitheater. The sounds of animals are heard in the distance, as four beautifully illuminated Lotus flowers float across the water. You will be entranced in their sheer beauty as the water dances and changes colors.
Soon the storytellers will make their arrival aboard elaborate lantern vessels. Adorned in their intricate costumes they summon the animal spirits — a Tiger, Turtle, Owl, and Elephant.
While most evening shows at Disney typically end with a big BANG, Rivers of Light is different. It is more soothing, and like a sweet, yet powerful lullaby; making it a nighttime show all family members will love.
Guests are transported on a journey throughout Asian jungles, African savannahs, and parts of North America as the story is told.

Rivers of Light
is now showing on select nights at Animal Kingdom. Fast Passes can be scheduled for this show, and I would highly recommend booking them at your 60-day mark window. Special dining packages at Tusker House and Tiffins that include reserved seating are available to park guests by visiting DisneyWorld.com/dining.

Here is a little preview for you to enjoy.

I believe Rivers of Light is an incredible addition to Animal Kingdom’s transition to a nighttime park. It is one of my favorite shows I’ve ever seen at Disney, and I am looking forward to our next visit to witness this magic again.

I was invited to the 2017 Disney Social Media Moms Celebration. I paid a nominal conference fee to attend and received discounted & complimentary items from Walt Disney World, Disney Cruise Line, and their sponsors. I was not asked to write about my experience. All opinions are my own.
