Potty Training

Oh potty training.  I have such a love/hate relationship with you.  Do you realize my first post on potty training was over a year ago?  Silly, silly me, for thinking it was going to be that easy.  Because, one year later, I found myself writing another “starting potty training” post.

So, where are we at?

Well.  It’s been a slow course, to say the least.  But, Lincoln has been willing, so that’s really half the battle.  While I tried to be all hardcore about potty training, and attempt to do a 3 day method, I very quickly realized that wasn’t going to work for Lincoln.  My sweet boy is very stubborn strong willed.

We decided to take the potty training approach slowly, and basically let Lincoln take the lead.  We quickly found that he would eagerly pee in the potty before bathtime.  So. We did just that.  It became such a routine, that Lincoln would take his clothes off, and just go to the potty to pee, automatically before each bath.

Over the course of this past week, he has made even more improvement.  I really don’t want to jinx myself, but I’m going to go all out and say Lincoln is 100% pee potty trained!  He has not had an accident in 5 days, and he is asking to go potty!!!

Although we still have him in a diaper during the night and for naptime, he surprisingly woke up last night at 1am to go potty!!

Now I know what you’re all thinking.  “What about the dreaded poop?”  Well.  We’re getting there.  He’s only had one accident and that thankfully was at my in-laws house.  He seems to still be grasping the concept and being able to distinguish the urge, so to say.

But?  I am so proud of my boy!  And even better?  He is SO proud of himself!! I feel confident to say our days of buying diapers are almost done.

OH.  I forgot to mention.  Lincoln prefers to pee standing up.  Already.  And of course he has terrible aim.  Which of course he finds hysterical.  Boys.

xoxo

Our potty trainIng experience with Xander has bee very similar. I fell into the dream that the 3 day method would work before realizing it just didn't for my stubborn boy. It took us over a year to potty train and he didn't start until he was ready. Once he got it it happened fast. He did so well this week on out roadtrip with no regression and even started telling us he needs to poop yay!!! Good luck there is end on sight.

Consider yourself forewarned: If you don’t like topics that include, but aren’t limited too, poop, pee, potty training, or a Momma who gets overly excited about these kind of things, then you might want to back out of this post.

Well folks, we’re potty training! Sort of. I’m kind of just letting Lincoln do his own thing with it. I’m letting him run the show for now. For the past couple of days I’ve been pretty much just randomly putting him on the potty. He normally likes to brush his teeth or read a book while he’s sitting there. Sometimes he’ll ask me to go on it. When he does that, I get really excited and eagerly put him on.

We had our first successful pee the other night, and I cheered for him! He LOVES when we cheer for him. He laughed while he was peeing. It was adorable ๐Ÿ™‚

& we also had quite the disastrous event the other night. While I was giving Lincoln his bath, he stood up in the tub and made his famous poop face. I picked him up in hopes to get him to poop on the potty. Well, I was this.close to putting his little tush on the potty when I heard, “plop.” That would be the sound of poop splattering on my floor. Oye!

Lincoln seems to be exhibiting some typical signs that he’s totally ready for potty training. The first one being, he goes and hides when he poops. He has even gone into the bathroom, shut the door and pooped. At least he knows where to go, right?!

I also cannot leave my sweet boy with just a diaper on. He’ll take it off. HOWEVER, not immediately. He seems to take it off right after he pees in it.

We’ll see where this goes. But, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t excited about these potty training adventures! I even whipped out my camera the other night while he was reading on the potty. Oh, and as you can see from this picture, he has a bit of an obsession with the toilet paper…which is why it’s a complete mess!

This also happens to be Lincoln’s adorable new “cheese” face ๐Ÿ™‚

Right before I snap a photo of my sweet boy, I ask him to say cheese. And he says “cheeeeese” in his little high pitched voice. I melt, every time.

We're in the same boat right now! Taking it slowly. I have to get a few of those potty covers for around the house and my parent's house.
Can't wait to hear how it goes for Lincoln!

I really want to start potty training but not sure that we are ready. I put Rex on the potty and he will sit there but we have had no successful potty times yet. I do have to say that we have had a poop in the tub incident not that long ago but my hubby was the one giving the bath and he didn't notice the signs so there was no trying to make it to the potty. Good luck!

How old is he? I blogged about our PT adventures too, about a year ago. Seems like forever ago! Following you now!
