Peter Rabbit 2 Parents Guide + Movie Review
Before we get started, let’s have a moment of truth. I was not a fan of the original Peter Rabbit movie. To be honest, I was really disappointed. I love a heartwarming story featuring animals. However, what I got just didn’t seem as family friendly as I had hoped. I’m going to jump right in and tell you that Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway surprised me — in a GOOD way!
I’ve mentioned before that my household is a multigenerational family. My parents live with my husband, myself, and our two children. It is always a treat when the six of us can enjoy a movie together. And to my pleasant surprise, Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway did just that.
Not only is the story fun and engaging, but the visuals were outstanding. There are a lot of animals in this film, and they’re all portrayed in CGI. The CGI is exceptionally brilliant. I could not get over how well these animals were brought to life. You will simply gush over the adorable fluffy CGI bunnies.
Now, let’s get back to the storyline. Not only is this movie full of hilarious one-liners, but if you dive deep into the film, there are great takeaways. Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway is predominantly about family and friendship, and that is something we can all get behind.

IS Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway KID-FRIENDLY? HERE’S YOUR PARENTS GUIDE:
While Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway is cute and full of laughs, is this movie okay for kids? Here’s what parents need to know about Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway.
Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway has an MPAA rating of PG for some rude humor and action. It has a runtime of 1 hour 25 minutes. Let’s breakdown the thematic elements and take a closer look.
Violence
There are a few semi-violent scenes, but I didn’t find them too bad. You will see animals attacking humans, and animals being thrown into cages. There is also a scene where people are playing what could be considered “whack-a-mole,” but with rabbits. There is no blood or gore, and while these scenes are mostly meant to be funny, there’s still the potential it could upset sensitive kids.
Language
While there is no profanity in Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway, this is where the rude humor comes to play. The rabbits are sort of like siblings, and they treat each other as such. There’s quite a bit of name calling. An example of the words used are: brat, sissy, twit, and dumb.
Mature Content
There is a scene where a rabbit sprays a bottle of champagne at someone. My 11 year old son actually made a comment about this saying it wasn’t needed in a family film. There was also a weird scene where one of the rabbits ate an obscene amount of jellybeans. While yes, this was really funny with how he reacted, it almost reminded me of him getting “drunk” off of the jellybeans. I’m sure it was only intended to be a sugar high, but if you can absolutely see the similarities.
Age Recommendation
As I said, I watched Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway with my entire family…ages 7 to 65 years old. We all found it enjoyable. This movie is playing exclusively in theaters and I think it would be a great movie to see after being cooped up for so long. The 1 hour 25 minute runtime is perfect, especially for little ones. Even though this isn’t an animated film, most of the movie involves the talking CGI rabbits and other animals. I could see children ages 5 and up enjoying Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway.

Overall Thoughts
Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway is exceptionally silly, yet full of heart. It’s about staying true to yourself and remembering that families come in all different shapes and sizes. Peter Rabbit 2: The Runaway is filled with lots of laughs, lot of shenanigans, and lots of FUN! Hop over to the theater and see this one on the big screen!
