I was recently invited to participate in a roundtable interview with actress Sonequa Martin-Green, who plays Kamiyah James in Space Jam: A New Legacy. It was a candid conversation between moms, and Sonequa was so genuine and a delight to speak with. From working alongside the legendary Lola Bunny to her own parenting wins and fails, she shared it all.

Interview with Sonequa Martin-Green of Space Jam: A New Legacy
Having grown up with the original Space Jam, it meant a lot to Sonequa to be part of this new iteration. She loves not only the modernization of the film, but she really appreciates the story’s deeper meaning. Sure there’s a lot of fun and action, but there is much more depth in this movie.
Sonequa says, “The root of the movie is family. Learning to sacrifice for your family, and learning to love your family as their authentic selves.” I feel this is what sets this version apart from the original. There’s a lot of heart and even emotional moments tucked into this film.
As far as playing LeBron James’s wife, Kamiyah, she considers her the backbone of the family. She is strong and knows when to give grace. However, she also says that while the family could not survive without her, it couldn’t survive without LeBron either. She respects the partnership between them, which is what makes them such a strong team.
