Remember way back when Lincoln had his Pre-K evaluation? Well, it just so happens that he was accepted into the program! As nervous as I was about this huge change in all of our lives, it really has been a great change for him.
He was eligible to start the program as soon as he turned 3 years old. The speech program he was in for Early intervention stops as soon as your child is three. At that time, if they still need assistance, they are referred to the school system.
As much as Lincoln has made tremendous progress through early intervention, he is still just not quite where he should be in the speech department.
So. Last Monday, November 26th, he had his first day of preschool!
To say I was nervous would be the understatement of the year. Lincoln has been with me every day, since he was first born. I really wanted him to enjoy school, and I wasn’t sure if he would have a difficult time making the transition.
Granted, the preschool program is only 2 1/2 hours per day, however, to a 3 year old, that can seem like a long time.
Or maybe it would just seem like a long time to me.
So, what’s the verdict? How did he do, you ask?
He loved it.
Seriously. He LOVES school. And that makes me so incredibly happy. And relieved.
On his first day, Jared and I were invited to spent some time in the classroom so he could get adjusted. When we walked in, his teacher showed him where he’d hang up his jacked and put his backpack.

Then Lincoln literally took off and went straight towards the art project that was awaiting the class. I think I may have a little artist on my hands.
Jared and I stayed for 45 minutes, and then we told Lincoln we were leaving. Gave him a hug and kiss, and walked out the door.
My eyes may have filled up as we closed the door behind us, but not because I was sad. I was so proud of him. He was absolutely fine. He wanted to be there. He was going to be okay.
Since that first day, things have been smooth sailing.
Because he’s technically in this program because of his speech delay, while he’s there he receives 30 minutes of speech each day. That is just amazing, and I can already see so many improvements in his speech development.
He is talking so much more, and he seems to be exhibiting much more confidence with his speech. He is trying so incredibly hard to talk, and I couldn’t be more proud.
As much as I loved the early intervention program, he was only receiving one hour of speech, every other week. Now he’s receiving 1 1/2 hours per week. That’s a huge change.
Each day he has a daily report in his backpack, telling me what he did during his time there, and what he ate for snack.
I also receive an art project almost every day 🙂
As scared as I was about this transition, I can honestly say that we absolutely made the right choice. Lincoln is making so much progress, and it’s just been one week. I cannot tell you all enough how proud I am of my son.
