My sweet boy,
November 23, 2009 at 8:43 AM. A day and time that would forever change my life. The day all of my dreams came true, and you made me a Mommy. My sweet boy, Lincoln James.
I remember being a little girl and thinking ahead to my future. More than anything, I remember wanting to be a Mom. I wanted my own little baby. Being a child myself at that time, I remember thinking it was such a long way off.
The first time your Daddy placed you into my arms, it was such a surreal moment for me. I remember thinking, “there you are,” like it was you I was always waiting for.
These past 9 years have gone by entirely too quickly. When you’re going through the newborn stage, it’s difficult to really understand how fast that time will go by. I suppose that saying, “the days are long, but the years are short,” is true.
As your Mom, turning 9 is a pretty big birthday for me. Nine is halfway to 18. Halfway until my Lincoln is an adult. How did we get here so fast? Wasn’t I just rocking you to sleep last night?
Although this time has flown by, I will say, you have continuously amazed me every single day of your life. I have never met a boy as kindhearted as you. You are wise beyond your years. You are compassionate and truly a good person. You want to make the world a better place, and I know the world is a better place because you’re in it. You are such a special boy, Lincoln, and I know you are destined for great things. I cannot wait to watch you soar!
This past year you have grown so much. In fact, you are now taller than me! You finished off your first year in your new school and made some great friends. Your favorite subjects are still science and math.
You’ve worked hard on your YouTube channel this year, and even went to your first event in NYC with me! I love sharing that interest with you, and I love that you hustle and work hard for what you want.
You’re still playing several sports. Last year you started hockey, played basketball, and even did a week of tennis camp! You’ve been playing soccer since you were 3 years old, and you’re getting really good! You’re a great goalie, and you scored your first goal this season!
You love any sort of strategy game. One of your favorites is RISK. You seriously win almost every time! You love jokes and riddles, of course video games, and you can “floss” like a boss! Christmas is your favorite holiday because “you love spending time with your family.” You are a pro at traveling, and Walt Disney World could probably hire you to give tours!
You are an incredible big brother to Avery. I know he drives you crazy a lot of the time, but my goodness are you protective of him. You are so patient with him, and I love watching the two of you grow closer as you get older.
You are still “mommy’s boy.” You ask to cuddle every night, and you jump in bed with me every morning. You have the biggest heart, and so much love to give. You are full of life and bring so much joy and goodness to the world.
Happiest 9th birthday, my sweet boy. Thank you for being exactly who you are. I love you to infinity and beyond, and never stop.
Love always,
Mom
