Ghosted had the potential to be a major fun rom-com with leading stars Chris Evans and Ana de Armas. Unfortunately, it completely misses the mark and falls flat.
Ghosted Movie Review
Apple TV+’s new action/adventure, rom com could have been SO much better. I’m not sure where the writing team went wrong. The story seemed promising, yet it left me underwhelmed and disappointed.
We’re used to seeing Chris Evans saving the day as superhero, Captain America. Ghosted presents Evans in a completely new role, Cole, who is an ordinary man working on a farm and knows everything there is about agriculture. He’s a bit dorky and awkward, and naturally has that sweet charm about him that comes naturally to Evans.
Cole’s life suddenly changes when he meets Sadie (Ana de Armas), aka: “the one.” She tells him she’s an art curator, but come to find out, she’s a secret agent. They find themselves halfway around the world in an adventure Cole didn’t sign up for.
It was fun seeing Evans in a role where he is just a normal person, and some of his scenes were quite hilarious. I found the chemistry between him and de Armas to be forced and severely lacking, which made it hard to see them as a couple.
That’s not to say Ghosted is all that bad. The highlight for me was noticing the Marvel actor cameos! Keep your eyes peeled for Anthony Mackie, Sebastian Stan, and Ryan Reynolds. While their appearances might be brief, they certainly add some fun to the movie!
Overall Thoughts
Ghosted fails at what should have been a major hit for Apple TV+. Ghosted was set up for perfection with a solid storyline and a star-studded cast. It seemed like a guaranteed winner. Unfortunately, the plot is subpar at best. I feel like the actors talents were wasted, and I almost wish they could get a redo. The best part of Ghosted is pointing out the Marvel cameos. I hope they at least enjoyed their reunion. Ghosted is streaming on Apple TV+, it is rated PG-13 for sequences of strong violence/action, brief strong language and some sexual content. It has a runtime of 1 hour 56 minutes.
Ghosted Synopsis
