Our family loves being Disney Vacation Club Members. It was a gift we gave to our little family, and we love the ability to use it time and time again. I’m not kidding when I say it’s one of our best purchases EVER! One of my favorite perks of being DVC Members, is having the luxury of staying at all of the different Disney Deluxe Villas! There are SO many resort hotels, and Disney is continuously adding more for its Disney Vacation Club Members! Of course when traveling, I do require an accessible room. Using a wheelchair can be tricky when traveling. However, Disney really knows how to accommodate!
During a recent visit to “The Most Magical Place on Earth,” Our family stayed at one of our favorites…Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas – Kidani Village! We booked an Accessible One Bedroom Villa. Kidani Village offers rooms that are a bit larger than some other Disney Vacation Club properties. This Mom also LOVES the convenience of having TWO bathrooms! I have two boys. Need I say more? Want to take a peek inside? Here’s everything you need to know about Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas Kidani Village Accessible One Bedroom Villas!
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Villas Kidani Village Accessible One Bedroom Villa
What makes a room accessible? First and foremost, the biggest difference is the bathroom. Accessible bathrooms are usually much larger and offer accommodations that are helpful if you’re mobility impaired. For example, there will usually be grab bars by the toilet and shower. The bathroom vanity will sometimes not have a cabinet underneath to assist people using a wheelchair. And my favorite feature, the roll-in shower. This is really exactly what it sounds like…I am able to “roll” my wheelchair right into the shower and transfer to a bench. I travel rather frequently and have visited other hotels where there is no bench. To me, this is not a roll-in shower…a person using a wheelchair will NEED that transfer bench to shower. It’s not like I can shower while sitting in my wheelchair! It might seem like something so simple, but for a person using a wheelchair, it is crucial.
Animal Kingdom Kidani Village Accessible Bathroom
If you’re staying in a one bedroom accessible villa at Kidani Village, there will be two bathrooms. The accessible bathroom is the Master Bath, conveniently located right off of the bedroom. Is is extremely spacious, making it very comfortable for me to move my wheelchair around with ease. The master bath also boasts a roll-in shower, as well as a jetted whirlpool tub. There are grab bars located by the toilet, inside of the shower, and by the bathtub.
Animal Kingdom Lodge Kidani Village Accessible One Bedroom Villa
Accessible one bedroom villas at Kidani Village sleep 5 people and offer a very generous size living area. Beds included are a king-size bed in the bedroom, queen-size sleeper sofa, and sleeper chair in the living room. The kitchen is quite roomy, and the sink doesn’t have any cabinets underneath to accommodate wheelchair users. Kidani Village Accessible One Bedroom Villas also include a washer and dryer…which you will LOVE!
Kidani Village Accessible One bedroom villas also have a second bathroom! This is SO nice and a wonderful feature of this Disney Vacation Club Resort. While the second bathroom is not handicapped accessible, it is perfect for the other members in your traveling party. For me, it is the designated bathroom for my two boys…who don’t always aim very well. Fellow boy moms, I know you get me.
Animal Kingdom Villas Kidani Village Accessible One Bedroom Villas are Truly Accessible
Disney does it right. And remember, just because a hotel room might be marked as “accessible,” it’s unfortunately not always the case. There might be one of the key component accessibility features you need missing. However, as a wheelchair user, I feel the villas at Kidani Village are truly wheelchair friendly.
