My sweet Lincoln is entering his third year of preschool in just one short month. He has a late November birthday, so we’re planning on one more year of pre-k for him…and then it’s on to Kindergarten (!!!). That just seems way too big kid status for me! I mean, wasn’t he just born yesterday? Okay. You all know we’re huge Disney fans. Lincoln especially loves all things Disney Junior. Whether it be Jake and the Neverland Pirates, or Mickey Mouse Clubhouse, he is truly a Disney kid!
He just finished up a brief summer program, to give him some extra speech therapy. Now he has a month off from school, which means I’m the teacher. I need to make sure that little brain keeps learning new things. I want him to be prepared for his upcoming year.
I think the most important part of education for a 4 year old, is keeping it fun. Learning through play is great for little ones, to keep them interested and thriving for more.
While shopping at Walmart the other day, I found a hidden gem while browsing the entertainment department.
There were these great learning activities brought to you by your favorite Disney Junior characters!
You know I bought some. Lincoln was actually with me when I was shopping, so I let him choose. He decided on “Jake and the Neverland Pirates Numbers and Counting,” and “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Colors and Shapes.” Big surprise, I know.
He was ridiculously excited to play the colors and shapes game when we got home. It was more or less a memory game, which is a great learning tool. There’s nothing I love more, than when Lincoln can have fun playing a game, and learn something in the process.
There were 36 cards, and honestly I didn’t know how well he would do with there being so many!
However, Lincoln didn’t let all those cards intimidate him! He dove right into the game, and did amazing! I was seriously so impressed with how well he did! When he matched the shapes, he was just so proud of himself!
Both games also include fun reward stickers. And if you’re a parent, then you know how much those little ones go crazy for stickers!!
I played two games with Lincoln, and then I needed to make dinner. But you know what is great about these card games? They’re simple enough where he can actually play independently! Trust me, I love playing with my kids, but sometimes I need to get stuff done. Setting Lincoln up with an educational, FUN activity, is perfect!
