We are huge Superhero Lovers in our house. I never knew how much I would know about superheroes until I became a mom. Batman is a definite favorite of both Lincoln and Avery. It’s so fun to watch them either play with their superhero figures, or even better, pretend to be the superheroes themselves. I am a huge fan of imaginative play. It brings me back to my childhood. While my favorite was baby dolls and Care Bears, I will admit…superheroes are pretty darn cool!
I was recently sent two books from National Geographic Kids: The Book of Heroes, and The Book of Heroines. Real life “Superheroes!” What’s better than that?!
As much as I enjoy pretend play and Superheroes, it’s nice to learn about our real-life heroes. These extraordinary people encourage our children that with determination, they can achieve all of their dreams.
In The Book of Heroines, discover the true stories of superstars, war heroes, world leaders,
peacemakers, and other gutsy gals who changed the world. The Book of Heroines highlights heroes such as Mother Teresa, Marie
Curie, Misty Copeland, Tina Fey, and Emma Watson.

We all know the word “hero” has several different meanings, however, in these books heroes tend to share seven stupendous qualities:
- Heroes are courageous
- Heroes do the right thing
- Heroes have compassion
- Heroes are competent
- Heroes are inspiring
- Heroes never quit
- Heroes leap to action
These are all incredible qualities for our little heroes to be inspired.
