We had another ultrasound on baby boy earlier this week. Because I have Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI), my doctor is very thorough and provides me with additional ultrasounds to check on our baby’s bone measurements, and look for other signs of OI.
At my 18 week ultrasound, everything checked out okay. And since I have been able to feel him move, I honestly believe he is just fine. His punches, kicks, jabs, rolls, are just way too strong [and painful], if he had OI. Although I have told my husband this many times, I think it’s especially reassuring for him to have the professionals tell him the same thing. After all, he’s not the one being used as a punching bag!
I could have opted for an amniocentesis test, however I’m not comfortable with that…and it really is not necessary. If for some reason this baby has OI, it will be okay. I have OI, and I have managed just fine. Do I hope my son doesn’t have it? OF COURSE!! But an amniocentesis is just something we feel is not needed.
Anyways, this ultrasound went amazing. All of his measurements are perfect, and we are pretty confident he doesn’t have OI — of course we will still have a blood test after birth, but for now, things are looking good!
Also? He’s huge. Looks like someone is already following in his big brothers footsteps! Currently he is estimated to be 3 pounds 11 ounces and measuring 3 days ahead. Holy Smokes!! His feet are also already 2 inches long! Looks like he won’t be fitting into those itty bitty baby socks either!
Lincoln was 8 pounds 13 ounces at birth, so I really wasn’t surprised to hear we’re having another big baby. Everyone just seems so surprised, because I am barely 5 feet! Jared and I were both big babies though — he was 9 pounds and I was 8 pounds 11 ounces, so I guess it makes sense!
I did find out that I have polyhydramnios [excessive amniotic fluid] again. I had it with Lincoln, and was sort of expecting it. Supposedly if you’ve had it before, your chances of having it again are increased. So I will be starting non-stress tests [NST’s] twice per week, until my scheduled c-section on November 18th.
We were able to get a decent profile shot of little Avery.
I immediately thought I noticed some similarities between him and Lincoln, so when I got home, I put together a side by side collage of the two of them. Lincoln is on the left at 30 weeks 1 day, and Avery is on the right at 29 weeks 2 days.
It looks like they have the same nose [maybe Avery’s is a little smaller?] and lips to me. What do you think? I’m really starting to get anxious to meet this new little man in my life. Just 10 more weeks!!
