Wow. That sure is a mouthful, huh?!
The other day I did something I swore I would never do. I download apps on my iPhone for my toddler. I know I know, it’s really not a heck of a big deal, and while I know that many people let their kids play with their phones…I would just prefer if Lincoln had something else to do. I’m sure the hefty price of an iPhone might have something to do with my reasoning.
I wanted to see what was offered for educational apps. What I found was seriously A TON! Loads and loads of pages full of apps that can apparently “teach” my toddler. I downloaded a bunch of free ones. Some I liked, while others got deleted immediately.
Lincoln was quite impressed with this new “toy” Mommy discovered for him. His favorite app is this “game” where you pop balloons. The balloons have letters on them, & when you pop one, it says the name of the letter. Pretty neat! And, while Lincoln is probably more excited about actually popping the balloons & celebrating when he successfully pops them all, I am certain hoping he’s learning little something!
So, I’ve mentioned I don’t really like him playing with my phone. Hmm. What to do? I started to research specific tablets designed for toddlers. Here’s what I came up with.
The Leap Frog LeapPad Explorer. Looks pretty neat, huh?
The VTech InnoTab. Looks like the screen is slightly smaller. But I like a lot of the features.
And last, is the VTech MobiGo. I like how compact this one is, and it has the most appealing price tag of the three.
So, which one do I go with? I also should add that the LeapPad and the InnoTab say for ages 4+, while the MobiGo says 3+. Not sure if that matters much, because I’m pretty sure an iPhone isn’t designed for a two year old. A lot of people have recommended just getting him an iPod Touch. While this seems like a great idea, I had an iTouch before my iPhone….and I cracked the screen. I’m sure it would only be a matter of days before that would happen. And honestly, I kind of think it’s a bit ridiculous to get a two year old his own iPod Touch.
Does your toddler have a learning tablet, or do you just suck it up and let him/her play with your phone?

Hey there,
My sister & sister in law have the leappad & LOVE IT. One of the boys is 4 and the other is 3. The one thing they did say was to get the a/c adapter. It goes through lots of batteries. Hope this helps!

My mama friend loves the Leap pads and her 2 and 4 yo's are obsessed with them.

Eh, I hated this too. That being said we downloaded the Toddler Lock App and Thad loves it. It shuts off any wireless signal while they play with and it locks them into the game so they can't exit it and play with everything else on your phone. That being said, he's getting kind of bored with it…I just wish more apps locked them in. Anyway, we only use it once in a great while, I'm not a fan of the phone playing either. Then again, I'm the parent that says I won't be putting a DVD player in my either – we'll see how that turns out in five years. ๐
